Last half term, Year 3 threw themselves wholeheartedly into their learning, embracing every challenge with enthusiasm and creativity. Science Day was a particular highlight: armed with just a single sheet of paper, the children designed and engineered their own boats, testing how many cubes each one could hold. Their problem‑solving, teamwork and ambition made the activity a joy to watch. We also began to explore the human body in greater depth, sorting bones into different categories and discussing their functions, with children eagerly trying to locate each bone on their own bodies. In geography, we learnt all about agriculture, exploring both arable and pastoral farming and creating detailed storyboards to show how food is produced, from planting seeds to caring for livestock.
In art, the class were equally absorbed as they explored Ancient Egyptian scrolls, studying the distinctive patterns, symbols and vibrant colours of the period. We created our own papyrus‑style paper, added Egyptian designs using watercolours and pencil, and completed the topic by making zines filled with artwork and step‑by‑step instructions. In RE, we learnt about the Jewish Bible and the significant figure of Abraham, exploring the story of Abraham and Isaac and discussing themes such as faith, trust and sacrifice. In writing, we focused on developing our use of direct speech, creating conversations between characters in Little Red Riding Hood and building confidence in punctuating dialogue accurately using inverted commas.
