Welcome to Year One
During this term we will be working hard to ensure that your children settle into the Year One routines and feel confident in their new environment.
Themes & Topics
Our Autumn topic will be ‘Fire, Fire!’ We will be learning about the Great Fire of London and comparing it with how our emergency services fight fires today; we even have a trip to the fire station planned – more information to follow! This topic will ‘land’ with a Forest School style campfire evening.
Our Spring topic will be ‘Toy Story’ and we will be comparing toys from the past with what we know today. We will be designing and making puppets and looking at how Cannock has changed since the Victorian times.
In the Summer Term, our topic will be ‘Fighting Fit!’ we will be learning about Mary Seacole and Florence Nightingale and looking at how nursing has changed from the past to how we know nursing today. We will look at what we need to do to keep healthy and make our very own fruit smoothies!
If you have any questions, concerns or worries please come and speak to us as our door is always open.
– The Year One Team
Homework will be sent out in red homework books on a Thursday and will need to be returned by the following Tuesday. Our ‘value of the month’ will be sent out at the start of each month and will need to be returned as soon as it is completed.
P.E kits will be needed in school all week; we will send them home each Friday so that you can wash them if you want to.
Reading will play an important part during the year so please support us by listening to your child read at home. Little and often works best; ten minutes a night is ideal Please write in your child’ reading record book, to help him/her to achieve our Moorhill Reading Challenge – the first step is to read twenty five books.
