During this first term we will be working really hard to ensure that all the children settle into the Year One routines and feel confident in their new environment.

PE will be on a Monday and Tuesday each week so please send your child to school wearing their PE kit.

Reading will play an important part during the year so please support us by listening to your child read at home. 5 minutes each night is plenty. Record this on the GoRead app so we can see how well your child is reading at home.

Homework will be sent out each Friday. Please upload any work to your child’s portfolio on Class Dojo.

Themes & Topics

In Autumn term, our topic is called ‘Fire, Fire!’

We will learn about the Great Fire of London and compare it to how our emergency services fight fires today. In Geography we will look at the town we live in and compare it to the city of London. In our Art lessons we will create fire pictures using different colours and resources and through our Design and Technology lessons we will design, make and evaluate our very own bread rolls.

In Spring term, our topic is called ‘Toy Story’

We  compare toys from the past with our toys of today. We will design and make puppets and we will look at how Cannock has changed since the Victorian times.

In Summer Term, our topic is called ‘Fighting Fit!’

We will learn about a famous nurse in History called Florence Nightingale.  We will research how nursing has changed from the past, to the nursing we know today. We will look at what we need to do to keep healthy and make our very own fruit kebabs!
